J. H. McDaniels
March 1910
J. H. McDaniels died Saturday at the home of Mrs. Shapley after an illness of a few weeks. A post mortem examination showed that death was caused by cancer of the stomach and liver. Deceased was 59 years of age. Very little is known of his life previous to his coming to Emmett seven or eight years ago. Until three years ago he was a partner of Sam Laughlin in the saloon business, running the Dewey bar. After he had sold out his interests he engaged in mining in the Deadwood country and spent his summers there and his winters in this city. He returned from his mines three months ago. His only known relatives are two brothers who live at Yakima, Wash. They were notified of his death, but refused to bear the expense of his funeral and his body was buried in the Potter's field Tuesday afternoon.
