Hawley 11. 979.6H2hj. V2. George Gardner was in the US Navy from 14 April 1864-14 April 1866 and served with the North Atlantic Squadron to the end of the war being chiefly in Albermarle Sound. He served under Adm's Farragut and Porter and the exploit he was officially cited for was the sinking of the Confederate Battleship Albermarle near the mouth of the Roanke River. He joined the US Army 21 November 1866. He left New York by boat for San Francisco via "Isthmus of Panama". He was in California, Arizona, and Idaho. He was discharged 8 years later on 10 January 1875 in Boise, Idaho. He belonged to the Grand Army of the Republic Freemont Post #23 of Emmett, Idaho. George Gardner Id. Pvt. Co. K 21 Regt.
