Caroline Ann McConnel (1927 - 2007)

Caroline Ann McConnel Graveside Services for Caroline Ann McConnel, 80 years-old, who died Saturday morning at a local assisted living will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Emmett Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel.

She was born on Feb. 26, 1927 to Hester Gross MacAskill and Donald MacAskill in Butte, Mont. As a child she lived in Butte, Mont. and Pearl, Idaho and attended Vanderdasson School and graduated from Emmett High School in 1945. Following high school, she worked for the Gem County Abstract Office.

Caroline married William C. McConnel on July 15, 1946 in Emmett. Three children were born to this union: Sharon, Rodney, and Sandra. They designed and built their dream home on the Emmett bench where Caroline surrounded her home with roses. After her children were grown, she entered the LPN training program at Walter Knox Hospital and successfully graduated. A few years later, she attended the Nursing Program at Boise State University at graduated from the two-year program in one year. She was employed at Mercy Medical Center in Nampa and later at Walter Knox Memorial Hospital. She continued her education in order to be certified to accompany heart patients in the ambulance and provide medications. In 1990 she retired. Caroline and Bill enjoyed several long motor home trips including three months in Alaska before her illness. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, crocheting, and collecting.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her son, Rodney, and her parents. She is survived by Sharon and Sandra McConnel; and her brothers, Wayne MacAskill of Bend, Ore. and Kenneth MacAskill, of Livingston, Mont. and their families. The last two years she has resided at Apple Valley Residence where she enjoyed their many activities and their dedication to loving care. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the Rebecca Lodge. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
